Issued in 1973 by the Union Bank of Burma, the 10 Kyats banknote features a left-facing portrait of General Aung San, the national hero and architect of Burmese independence. The portrait is detailed and set within an ornamental frame, with Burmese script and the denomination printed in multiple locations on the front.
The reverse showcases the iconic Chinthe, a mythical lion-like creature from Burmese mythology, often seen guarding pagodas and temples. The design uses a violet, green, and brown color scheme with traditional patterns and ornamental elements throughout.
Printed on 100% cotton paper, the banknote includes a watermark of General Aung San for security. It does not feature a security thread. This note was part of the series used before major demonetizations in the late 1980s.
