Issued in August 2010 by the Central Bank of Brazil as part of the second series of the Real currency, this 2 Reais note features the iconic Rufous-bellied Thrush (Sabiá-laranjeira), Brazil’s national bird, on the obverse side perched among branches. The background includes subtle wave patterns and a stylized map of Brazil.
The reverse shows the underwater scene of two golden naiad fish (Nematolebias whitei) swimming in a lacustrine environment, reflecting the country’s aquatic biodiversity. The note is printed on high-quality cotton paper, incorporating these advanced security features: a see-through Brazilian flag window, latent number 2, watermark of the thrush, a security thread, microprinted text, raised tactile dots for the visually impaired, and UV‑fluorescent fibers.
The banknote measures 140 × 65 mm, predominately light blue in color, and bears signatures from the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank at the time.
