Issued in 1962 by the Banco Central do Brasil, this 5 Cruzeiros banknote is part of the transitional series following Brazil’s adoption of the new Cruzeiro currency post-World War II. The obverse features a dignified portrait of Dom Pedro II, Brazil’s second and final emperor, set within intricate guilloché patterns in shades of gray-blue for a refined appearance.
The reverse displays an allegorical representation of Industry, with a female figure holding a gear and torch, symbolizing Brazil’s industrial growth during that era. The note is printed on cotton-based paper and includes a watermark of Dom Pedro II’s profile and microprinted repeating “Banco Central” text. This issue does not include a security thread.
The banknote measures 130 × 60 mm and was withdrawn from circulation during subsequent currency reform in the late 1960s.
