The 5000 Colones 2018 banknote was issued by the Central Bank of Costa Rica as part of the polymer series introduced to improve durability and security.
The obverse continues to honor Alberto Manuel Brenes (1870–1948), the distinguished Costa Rican naturalist and botanist known for his studies on the flora of the country. His portrait appears alongside motifs related to Costa Rica’s natural heritage.
The reverse highlights the Tropical Dry Forest ecosystem, typical of Guanacaste, featuring a white-tailed deer, trees, and other native species.
This issue is printed on polymer substrate, making it more resistant to humidity and wear. It includes modern security features such as transparent windows, raised tactile marks for the visually impaired, and advanced holographic elements.
The banknote measures 133 × 67 mm.
