The 25 Egyptian Piastres 1999 banknote was issued by the Central Bank of Egypt during a period of economic modernization. It represents the smaller fractional currency of the Egyptian Pound.
On the obverse, the note depicts the Al-Azhar Mosque, founded in 970 AD in Cairo, one of the world’s oldest universities and a key symbol of Islamic learning. Intricate Arabic calligraphy and traditional geometric patterns enhance the design.
The reverse features a representation of the Egyptian coat of arms with the Eagle of Saladin, along with decorative motifs inspired by Pharaonic art.
Security features include a watermark of the Sphinx, microtext, and a solid security thread.
