The 5 Lari 1995 banknote was issued by the National Bank of Georgia as part of the reformed lari currency introduced in 1995.
The obverse depicts Ivane Javakhishvili, a renowned Georgian historian and one of the founders of Tbilisi State University, along with Georgian ornamental designs.
The reverse shows the building of Tbilisi State University, reflecting the importance of education and cultural heritage in Georgia’s modern history.
Enhanced security features were added compared to earlier transitional issues, including watermarks, microtext, and guilloché patterns.
