The 1,000 Cedis 1996 banknote was issued by the Bank of Ghana during the post-reform era, following the redenomination of the cedi in 1965 and adjustments in the 1990s to address inflation.
The obverse features a portrait of Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, alongside decorative geometric patterns and the national coat of arms.
The reverse depicts the Akosombo Dam, representing Ghana’s commitment to industrialization and hydroelectric power generation.
