The 5,000 Cedis 2002 banknote was issued by the Bank of Ghana as part of the currency series used before the 2007 redenomination. This high-denomination note was necessary due to persistent inflation in the early 2000s.
The obverse features a portrait of Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, along with geometric patterns and the national coat of arms.
The reverse illustrates the Akosombo Hydroelectric Dam, representing Ghana’s industrial and energy development.
