The 5 New Pence banknote of 1972 was issued by the British Armed Forces as part of the 6th series of military payment vouchers. These notes were not legal tender for the general public but were used by British troops in military bases around the world.
The obverse displays the denomination FIVE NEW PENCE in large lettering, intricate guilloche patterns in blue and green, and the series details. The note includes security background designs and serial numbering.
The reverse continues with guilloche and ornamental patterns, again emphasizing the denomination 5 NEW PENCE. Unlike Bank of England notes, these carried no portrait of the monarch.
