Ukraine 50 Hryvnias Mykhailo Hrushevsky 2019 Pick B126a UNC Banknote
The Ukraine 50 Hryvnias 2019 Pick B126a is a modern banknote issued by the National Bank of Ukraine. Its design honours Mykhailo Hrushevsky (1866–1934), an important historian and political figure in Ukraine’s early twentieth-century history.
Introduced into circulation on 20 December 2019, this redesigned note combines historical portraiture, Ukrainian architectural heritage and modern banknote security features.
Historical Background
Mykhailo Hrushevsky was a historian, writer and chairman of the Ukrainian Central Council during the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921. He is particularly known for his extensive historical work History of Ukraine-Rus’, which explored Ukraine’s historical development.
His portrait on the 50 Hryvnias denomination reflects his place in Ukrainian cultural and political history.
The 2019 design updated the country’s existing 50 Hryvnias banknote while retaining Hrushevsky and the Central Council building as its principal subjects.

Reverse
The reverse depicts the Ukrainian Central Council building in Kyiv, now associated with the city’s Teachers’ House.
The building played an important role during the Ukrainian Revolution, when the Central Council adopted declarations concerning Ukrainian autonomy and statehood.
Its appearance complements Hrushevsky’s portrait, connecting the two sides of the banknote through a shared historical theme.
Security Features
The 2019 banknote incorporates a portrait watermark of Mykhailo Hrushevsky with an electrotype numeral 50, an embedded security thread, tactile printing and other anti-counterfeiting elements.
