Historical Background
On 9 July 1816, delegates meeting at the Congress of Tucumán formally declared the independence of the United Provinces of South America from the Spanish monarchy.
The declaration followed the revolutionary process that had begun with the May Revolution of 1810 in Buenos Aires.
Two centuries later, Argentina celebrated the Bicentennial of Independence in 2016, with commemorative events and numismatic issues marking the anniversary.
This special 2 Pesos coin forms part of that bicentennial commemoration.

200 Years of Argentine Independence
The 1816 Declaration of Independence is one of the defining events in Argentine history.
The Congress of Tucumán formally broke political ties with the Spanish monarchy, consolidating the independence movement that had developed after the events of May 1810.
The year 2016 therefore represented a major national anniversary: 200 years of Argentine independence.
The KM 184 coin transforms this historic anniversary into a circulating numismatic piece, connecting modern Argentina with the origins of the independent nation.
