The 500 Manat banknote, issued in 1993 by the National Bank of Azerbaijan, is part of the country’s early post-independence currency series. Measuring 125 × 63 mm, it features a portrait of the Azerbaijani poet and philosopher Nizami Ganjavi on the obverse, with the inscription “AZƏRBAYCAN MİLLİ BANKI” (National Bank of Azerbaijan) and the denomination “500”. The reverse displays ornate floral patterns and the denomination “BEŞ YÜZ MANAT” (Five Hundred Manat).
This note was part of the initial series released on August 15, 1992, and is cataloged as Pick 19 in the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money. It includes a three-flame watermark, symbolizing Azerbaijan’s ancient Zoroastrian heritage, and a solid security thread. The note was demonetized on December 31, 2006.
