The 10 Ngultrum banknote issued by the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan in 2006 showcases Bhutan’s cultural and spiritual richness. The obverse features a portrait of King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, Bhutan’s fourth king, who is celebrated for his leadership and for establishing the country’s development philosophy of Gross National Happiness. The background includes traditional Bhutanese patterns and the national emblem, representing harmony between secular and spiritual authority.
The reverse depicts the Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most iconic and historically significant monasteries, located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. The note is printed on paper and includes security features such as a solid security thread, watermark of the King’s portrait, and detailed intaglio printing. The banknote measures 125 x 60 mm and is primarily orange in color.
