The 1000 Ngultrum banknote issued by the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan in 2016 commemorates the birth of His Royal Highness The Gyalsey, Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, on 5 February 2016. This note is part of the 2006–2020 series and was released into circulation on 21 September 2016. The obverse features a portrait of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, adorned with the Raven Crown, symbolizing Bhutanese sovereignty. Surrounding the portrait are traditional Bhutanese motifs, including a mythical Dakini descending from heaven to offer the Raven Crown to the King, flanked by two dragons, and a Dharma Wheel (Khorlo) at the center. The reverse depicts the Tashichho Dzong, the seat of Bhutan’s government in Thimphu, with a commemorative overprint reading “Celebrating the Birth of The Gyalsey, February 5th 2016” in silver foil. The note is printed on paper and includes modern security features such as a 4-mm wide Rolling Star windowed security thread with demetalized “RMA 1000” text and a watermark of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. It measures 165 x 70 mm and is predominantly yellow, red, and gold in color.
