Issued in 1972 by the Banco Central do Brasil, this 1 Cruzeiro banknote is part of the seventh Cruzeiro series. The obverse features a portrait of Pedro Álvares Cabral, the Portuguese navigator credited with discovering Brazil in 1500, set within intricate guilloché patterns in blue and green tones.
On the reverse, there is an illustration of the Monument to the Discoveries (Padrão dos Descobrimentos) in Lisbon, symbolizing Brazil’s colonial origins and cultural ties to Portugal. The note is printed on cotton-based paper and includes a watermark of Pedro Álvares Cabral, microprinting, and delicate underprint designs. It does not feature a security thread.
The dimensions are 130 × 60 mm, and it was withdrawn from circulation following currency revaluations in the mid-1970s.
