Issued in 1980 by the Banco Central do Brasil, this 1 Cruzeiro banknote belongs to the eighth series of Cruzeiro currency. The obverse features a portrait of Pedro Álvares Cabral, the explorer credited with the 1500 “discovery” of Brazil, framed within detailed guilloché patterns in blue and teal tones.
The reverse showcases a depiction of the Monument to the Discoveries in Lisbon, highlighting Brazil’s historical and cultural ties to Portugal. The note is printed on cotton-based paper and includes a watermark of Pedro Álvares Cabral’s profile, microprinted repeating text, and fine underprint line designs. It does not include a security thread.
The note measures 130 × 60 mm and was withdrawn from circulation following monetary reforms in the early 1980s.
