Issued in 2018 by the Banque de la République du Burundi, this 5000 Francs banknote is part of the contemporary series celebrating Burundi’s heritage and natural environment. The obverse features a portrait of a Burundian elder wearing traditional clothing, accompanied by the signatures of the Governor and Vice-Governor. Bilingual inscriptions in French and Kirundi appear clearly, representing the country’s official languages.
The reverse showcases a detailed depiction of native wildlife and cultural motifs, alongside repeating denomination text and sophisticated security elements. Printed on durable cotton-based paper, the note incorporates multiple security features including a security thread, watermark, and microprinting.
