Issued in 1983 by the Banco de la República, this 20 Pesos Oro banknote was part of Colombia’s final series using the “Oro” designation before major currency reforms. The obverse features a portrait of Francisco José de Caldas, the famed scientist and independence-era figure, alongside the national Coat of Arms and denomination texts.
The reverse displays a collection of archaeological pieces from the Museo del Oro, celebrating Colombia’s pre-Columbian heritage with stylized motifs and artifacts.
Printed on cotton-based paper, the note measures 140 × 70 mm. It does not include a watermark, consistent with Peso Oro notes of this era. The design includes multicolor guilloché patterns and serial numbers in red ink. This note is cataloged under Pick number P‑409.
