The 5 Sucres 1988 banknote was issued by the Banco Central del Ecuador before the country replaced the sucre with the U.S. dollar in 2000.
The obverse features a portrait of Pedro Vicente Maldonado, an Ecuadorian scientist and geographer, with the denomination clearly marked.
The reverse shows the headquarters of the Banco Central del Ecuador in Quito, framed with detailed ornaments.
Printed on cotton paper, this note includes a watermark of the bank’s emblem and standard anti-counterfeiting details.
