Egypt 25 Piastres Banknote 1961
Discover Egypt’s monetary heritage with this 25 piastres banknote from the Central Bank of Egypt’s 1961 issue. Representing one-quarter of an Egyptian pound, it reflects the banknote design of the United Arab Republic period.
The front features Arabic inscriptions and the United Arab Republic’s eagle coat of arms at the right. Blue printing over a multicoloured background, decorative borders, and detailed ornamental patterns give the note its distinctive appearance.
The reverse displays the issuing bank’s name, “Central Bank of Egypt,” and the denomination “Twenty Five Piastres” in English, framed by intricate decorative engraving. The bilingual design is characteristic of Egyptian banknotes of the period.
Printed by Bradbury Wilkinson and Company, the paper note measures 132 × 70 mm. Its watermark features a repeating eagle coat-of-arms pattern. The early 1961–1963 variety bears the signature of Abd El-Hakim El-Refaie and is catalogued as Pick 35a.
An appealing addition to collections of Egyptian currency, historic African banknotes, or heraldic designs, this issue offers a compact example of Egypt’s mid-century monetary history.
