The 5 Dalasis 1972–1986 banknote was issued by the Central Bank of The Gambia as part of the first Dalasi series introduced in 1971 to replace the Gambian Pound.
The obverse features a portrait of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, the first President of The Gambia, together with the national coat of arms and security guilloche patterns.
The reverse depicts a fishing scene with boats, representing the importance of fishing to the Gambian economy and coastal communities.
Printed on paper with a solid security thread and a watermark of Sir Dawda Jawara.
