The 5 Cedis 2017 banknote was issued by the Bank of Ghana to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Bank of Ghana (1957–2017). It is a special commemorative issue with enhanced security features and unique designs compared to the standard circulation notes.
The obverse features a portrait of Dr. James Kwegyir Aggrey, a famous Ghanaian intellectual, educator, and missionary. It also displays the Bank of Ghana crest, security threads, microtext, and watermark for authenticity.
The reverse depicts a tro-tro minibus with passengers, a symbol of everyday life and transport in Ghana, along with modern design elements that emphasize progress and culture.
