Haiti 1 Gourde 1992 Pick 259a UNC Banknote

The Haiti 1 Gourde 1992 banknote (Pick 259a) was issued by the Banque de la République d’Haïti as part of the country’s post-1986 currency series. It features Toussaint Louverture, the leader of the Haitian Revolution and one of the most important figures in the fight against slavery in the Americas.

Printed by Thomas De La Rue in the United Kingdom, the note combines an elegant brown colour scheme with modern security features. In UNC (Uncirculated) condition, it is a desirable addition to any Caribbean or world banknote collection.

Historical Background

Following the restoration of democratic institutions in the late 1980s, Haiti introduced a new family of banknotes celebrating the country’s national heroes.

The 1992–1993 1 Gourde became one of the most widely circulated low-denomination notes of the period. Its portrait of Toussaint Louverture honours the leader of the Haitian Revolution, whose actions ultimately led to the establishment of Haiti as the world’s first independent Black republic in 1804.
