Issued by the Central Bank of Iraq in 2004, this 500 Dinars banknote is part of the first redesigned series introduced after the fall of Saddam Hussein, featuring cultural, historical, and architectural themes that reflect Iraq’s rich heritage.
The obverse shows the Dukan Dam, an important hydroelectric project located in the Kurdistan region, symbolising national infrastructure and economic development. The design includes detailed guilloché patterns, bilingual numbering, and modern security features.
The reverse depicts a winged bull (Lamassu) from the ancient city of Khorsabad, representing Mesopotamian art and mythology. This guardian figure is one of the most recognisable symbols of Assyrian civilisation.
