Historical Background
Namibia achieved independence on 21 March 1990 and established the Bank of Namibia during the same year.
The country introduced the Namibian Dollar (NAD) in 1993, replacing the South African Rand as its national currency. However, the South African Rand continues to circulate as legal tender in Namibia.
