The 5 Piso 1978 banknote was issued by the Central Bank of the Philippines (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas).
The obverse features Emilio Aguinaldo (1869–1964), the first President of the Philippines and a leading figure in the Philippine Revolution against Spanish rule. His portrait is accompanied by the seal of the Central Bank.
The reverse depicts the Declaration of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898, in Kawit, Cavite, where Aguinaldo proclaimed independence from Spain.
The note is printed on paper with a watermark of Emilio Aguinaldo for security.
