Sierra Leone Complete Set of 5 Coins 1–50 Cents 2022 KM 503–507 UNC

The Sierra Leone 2022 complete set of 5 coins brings together the country’s modern Cent denominations introduced as part of the redenominated Leone currency system.

The complete set contains:

Denomination Year KM# Condition
1 Cent 2022 KM#503 UNC
5 Cents 2022 KM#504 UNC
10 Cents 2022 KM#505 UNC
25 Cents 2022 KM#506 UNC
50 Cents 2022 KM#507 UNC

This gives collectors both a complete denomination progression and a consecutive catalogue sequence:

KM#503 → KM#504 → KM#505 → KM#506 → KM#507

Sierra Leone’s Currency Redenomination

Sierra Leone introduced a major currency reform in 2022, redenominating the Leone by removing three zeros.

The conversion was:

1 new Leone (SLE) = 1,000 old Leones (SLL)

This created a much simpler denomination structure and brought fractional Cent coins back into practical relevance.

The five coins in this set therefore belong to an important transition in Sierra Leone’s modern monetary history.

Complete 2022 Cent Series

The denomination progression is:

1 → 5 → 10 → 25 → 50 Cents

with:

100 Cents = 1 Leone

The set therefore covers the principal fractional denominations below one Leone.

For collectors, obtaining all five together provides a much more representative example of Sierra Leone’s redenominated currency than purchasing only one denomination.

Historical Background

Sierra Leone gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1961.

The Leone was introduced in 1964, replacing the British West African Pound. Over subsequent decades, inflation dramatically reduced its purchasing power, eventually leading to very large nominal denominations.

The 2022 redenomination simplified the currency while retaining the historic Leone name.
