Issued on 25 May 1992 by the National Bank of Belarus, the 5 Rubles banknote belongs to the first post-Soviet “first ruble” series, representing the early stages of Belarusian monetary independence. The obverse features two Eurasian wolves, symbolizing the nation’s wildlife heritage, set against decorative guilloché patterns in blue and pink.
The reverse displays the historic Pahonia coat of arms, showing a mounted knight with a sword and shield — a heraldic symbol tied to Belarus’s Grand Duchy of Lithuania legacy. Printed by Goznak (Russia), the note is made of 100% cotton paper. It includes a braided “S” watermark and red UV-fluorescent fibers, though it does not include a security thread. The note measures 105 x 53 mm and was officially withdrawn from circulation on 1 January 2001.
