Issued on 10 April 2018 by the Central Bank of Bolivia, this banknote marks the introduction of the “Series A” family under the Plurinational State of Bolivia. The obverse features portraits of three heroes: José Santos Vargas (“El Tambor” Vargas), Apiaguaiki Tüpa, and Eustaquio Méndez (“El Moto” Méndez), alongside an image of the Umajalanta Cavern in Torotoro National Park. The reverse features Isla del Pescado in Salar de Uyuni, a giant hummingbird (Picaflor gigante), and the Puya Raimondi cactus—symbols of Bolivia’s unique ecosystems.
This cotton-paper note measures 140 × 70 mm, with a predominant light blue color. Security features include a windowed metallic thread with demetalized “10” and “Vargas,” a watermark of José Santos Vargas, a pixelated drum, and microprinting. A SPARK® variable-ink hummingbird appears on the reverse, along with UV-fluorescent fibers and raised print for vision-impaired users.
