Issued in March 2010 by the Central Bank of Brazil as part of the second Real series, this 10 Reais banknote features on the obverse the iconic Hyacinth macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus), Brazil’s largest parrot, perched among foliage and set against wave-like background patterns. The design also includes the national coat of arms and microprinted text.
The reverse depicts a detailed underwater scene showcasing a dusky grouper fish (Epinephelus marginatus) amid seaweed, celebrating Brazil’s aquatic biodiversity. The note is printed on high-quality cotton paper and includes modern security features: a see-through Brazilian flag window, latent numeral “10”, a watermark of the hyacinth macaw, a windowed security thread, microprinting, raised tactile elements for visually impaired users, and UV‑fluorescent fibers.
The note measures 140 × 65 mm in a distinctive orange color palette.
