Issued in 1974 by the Cayman Islands Currency Board, this 1 Dollar banknote is part of the first official series of the British Overseas Territory. The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, set against an ornate underprint in shades of blue and green. The note includes inscriptions in English, the official language of the Cayman Islands, and bears the signature of the Currency Board Chairman.

The reverse displays a view of a Caymanian coastal scene, with palm trees and traditional boats, capturing the island’s maritime character and tropical setting. Printed on cotton-based paper, the note includes a solid security thread and a watermark featuring a turtle, a national symbol.

First issued in 1972 according to the Currency law enacted in 1971. The currency law was updated in 1974, however the only difference in the banknotes being the date. The dates on the banknotes do not relate to when they were issued or released.
