The 1000 Colones 2019 banknote belongs to the new Costa Rican series issued by the Central Bank of Costa Rica, printed on polymer substrate for greater durability.
The obverse features Mauro Fernández Acuña (1843–1905), a key figure in Costa Rican educational reform. It also includes motifs related to education, along with security features such as a transparent window, raised printing, and color-shifting ink.
The reverse depicts a natural landscape with the cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis) and a wetland ecosystem, highlighting the country’s biodiversity. The banknote measures approximately 125 × 67 mm.
