The obverse features Mauro Fernández Acuña (1843–1905), a renowned lawyer, politician, and key reformer of Costa Rica’s educational system. Security elements include a watermark, security thread, and microtext.
The reverse shows the National Theater of Costa Rica (Teatro Nacional), one of the country’s most important cultural landmarks, located in San José. The note measures approximately 131 × 67 mm.
