The 1000 Pesetas 1965 (issued 1971) banknote was printed and circulated by the Banco de España during the Franco era.
The obverse shows the portrait of Hernán Cortés (1485–1547), the Spanish conquistador known for leading the expedition that caused the fall of the Aztec Empire in the early 16th century.
The reverse depicts a view of the Palace of Charles V in the Alhambra of Granada, a Renaissance masterpiece integrated within the famous Nasrid palace complex.
The watermark represents Hernán Cortés.

St. Isidore’s Basilica (Spanish: Basílica de San Isidoro) is a Catholic church in the city of León, Castile and León, Spain, located on the site of an ancient Roman temple. Its Christian roots can be traced back to the early 10th century when a monastery for Saint John the Baptist was erected on the grounds.
