Historical Background
Ahmed Zabana (1926–1956) was an Algerian independence activist and member of the National Liberation Front (FLN) during the early stages of the Algerian War.
He participated in the uprising that began in November 1954 and was subsequently captured by French forces. Zabana was executed by guillotine in 1956.
He subsequently became an important symbol in Algeria’s national memory, and his portrait appears prominently on this 200 Dinars type.

Ahmed Zabana
Born in 1926, Ahmed Zabana became involved in the Algerian nationalist movement and later participated in the armed struggle against French colonial rule.
Following his capture, he was sentenced to death and executed in 1956. His death occurred during the early phase of the Algerian War of Independence (1954–1962).
Today his name appears on monuments and public institutions in Algeria, and his selection for the 200 Dinars denomination reflects his place in the country’s historical memory.
