This Malawi 2024 set of 2 coins brings together the country’s newly introduced 20 and 50 Kwacha circulation coins.
Both coins carry the date 2024, but were officially released into circulation in 2026 as part of a modernisation of Malawi’s currency system.

Historical Background
The Reserve Bank of Malawi introduced the new 20 and 50 Kwacha coins to replace the equivalent banknotes gradually.
Lower-value banknotes tend to circulate frequently and deteriorate much faster than higher denominations. Coins provide a more durable alternative and can remain in circulation for considerably longer.
The two new denominations entered circulation together on 24 April 2026, making this pair a particularly interesting contemporary African coin set.
