Egypt 20 Pounds Banknote – 21 September 2022 – UNC
Discover Egypt’s architectural and ancient heritage with this 20 pounds banknote dated 21 September 2022. Issued by the Central Bank of Egypt, the design combines an iconic Cairo mosque with imagery inspired by ancient Egyptian monuments.
The front depicts the Muhammad Ali Mosque, also known as the Alabaster Mosque, within Cairo’s Citadel. Its domes and slender minarets appear against detailed ornamental patterns, with Arabic inscriptions identifying the issuing bank and denomination. Dark green and grey printing overlays a multicoloured background.
The reverse features Ramesses II fighting from a horse-drawn chariot, inspired by a relief depicting the Battle of Kadesh at Abu Simbel. Additional decoration draws on a coronation frieze from the chapel of Senusret I, accompanied by the bank’s name and denomination in English.
Printed on paper and measuring 155 × 70 mm, the note includes a Princess Nofret watermark with the numeral 20, security threads, and colour-shifting elements. This September 2022 issue bears the signature of Hassan Abdullah.
Offered in uncirculated condition (UNC/SC), it makes an appealing addition to collections of Egyptian currency, Islamic architecture, ancient civilisations, or world banknotes.
