Indonesia 1 Rupiah 1956 Pick 74 UNC Banknote

The Indonesia 1 Rupiah 1956 banknote (Pick 74) is part of the third series of government-issued banknotes produced by the Republic of Indonesia during the early years of independence. Signed by Finance Minister Jusuf Wibisono, this issue replaced the 1954 variety while retaining the same attractive design.

Printed in shades of blue, the note features a portrait of a Javanese girl on the obverse and the Garuda Pancasila, Indonesia’s national emblem, on the reverse. Its simple yet elegant design makes it a popular collectible among enthusiasts of Asian paper money.

In UNC (Uncirculated) condition, it is an excellent example of Indonesia’s early post-independence currency.

Historical Background

Following Indonesia’s independence in 1945, the young republic introduced several banknote series as it established its own monetary system.

The 1956 issue is distinguished from the 1954 version by the signature of Jusuf Wibisono, who served as Minister of Finance. These government-issued notes circulated until being replaced by later Bank Indonesia issues at the end of the 1950s.
