The Libya 1 Dinar 2004 banknote (Pick 68a) was issued by the Central Bank of Libya as part of the Series 6 banknotes during the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya period. Printed by De La Rue, it features the portrait of Muammar al-Gaddafi, who governed Libya from 1969 until 2011.

Historical Background
The Series 6 banknotes were introduced in 2004 to modernise Libya’s circulating currency while maintaining national themes associated with the Jamahiriya period. The Pick 68a variety is distinguished by the signature of Dr. Ahmed M. Muneisi Abdel-Hamid, Governor of the Central Bank between 2001 and 2006.
