Historical Background
Following the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s government in 2011, Libya introduced a completely redesigned family of banknotes replacing the former Jamahiriya designs. The 1 Dinar became the first denomination of the new series and entered circulation on 17 February 2013, exactly two years after the beginning of the revolution. It remained legal tender until 30 September 2025.
